A.W. Faber introduced the Castell pencil in 1906. The model 9022 leadholder didn't appear until a few years later, I believe. With the introduction of the Castell 9022 "Artists' Pencil" the classically styled clutch used on A.W. Faber's original Artists' Pencil since the 1960s that had been copied in every detail by every maker of clutch pencils was finally given a rework.
