This unique, tiny leadholder is a compass attachment. It screws into the same sort of compass adapter that accepts technical pens. Very handy.

rotring compass pencils

I [gratuitous vulgarity omitted] LOVE this [gratuitous vulgarity omitted] set. Pull up a [gratuitous vulgarity omitted] stool and I’ll tell you why:

This set exhibits the pencil world’s equivalent to an ink drafting tool set tradition. One hundred or so years ago, drafting tool makers began making compasses with interchangeable leg sections, one for pencil and one for ink drafting. In sets such as these there was very frequently an empty ruling pen handle into which a compass ink attachment could be inserted to create a fully functioning ruling pen.

In this wonderful and wholly unique Staedtler tool set a handle is included that converts the miniature Circofix pencils into fully functioning leadholders. The handle is very similar to a technical pen barrel and would probably function as such, but unlike a tech pen barrel it features a special slot to allow access to the actuating pushbuttons of the pencils.
