I decided to add thumbnail images to the What’s New section. I’ll probably only keep them on the more recent entries to keep the page size reasonable.

unknown 2 piece
Added an unusual leadholder comprised of only two parts to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Johann Faber No. 1
Added a Johann Faber Artists’ Pencil No. 1 to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

Koh-I-Noor 5649 Italy

Updated the Koh-I-Noor Versatil entry with additional information and definitive year of introduction (1946) in the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Giant Eagle Stop Gauge
Added a HUGE Eagle Automatic Stop Gauge Pencil to the Non-Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald. This is the first time I’ve ever had to reduce the relative scale of a pencil thumbnail to fit it in the navigation pane at left, so this thing is even larger than it appears relative to the other pencils here.

Criterium 2613
Added a Gilbert & Blanzy-Poure Criterium 2613 to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

Criterium 2520
Added a Conté Criterium 2520 to the Non-Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

Updated the Criterium entry with additional information and definitive year of introduction (1939) in the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Criterium ad, 1950 Criterium ad, 1952
Added two advertisements from 1950 and 1952 issues of the French magazine Mécanique Populaire for Criterium pencils to the Ad Gallery.

Criterium ad, 1960
Added a groovy 1960 ad for Criterium pencils featuring a loose living artist and his sexy nude model (I’m trying to bump up traffic by employing “popular” keywords) to the Ad Gallery.

Hardtmuth No. 6
Added a very early L&C Hardtmuth Everpointed Artists’ Pencil No.6 to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

Bruning 3583
Added US Patent 2,455,019 “Pencil Holder” to the Patent Gallery.

Stabilo 8838
Added a Schwan Stabilo-Min 8838 to the Non-Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

Eagle Turquoise ad
Added an ad for Eagle Turquoise Pencils from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology undergraduate newspaper, “The Tech,” September, 1957 to the Vintage Ad Gallery.

King's Own
Added a Cumberland “King’s Own” English leadholder to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Staedtler 1001
Added a Staedtler Mars Lumograph Technico 1001 variant with a metal grip to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

Hardtmuth No. 4
Added a very old L&C Hardtmuth No. 4 thick lead pencil to the Non-Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

Big behind the scenes code revision. Every single page has been updated or relocated or renamed or any combination of the above. Therefore all bookmarks that point to anything other than the root URL, leadholder.com, will no longer work. The update includes a Javascript to load any linked-to pages into the frameset. This should help those coming from a Google search immensely with site navigation. It also means Google’s cache will be out of date for a while so those who find Leadholder via Google will be sent to the wrong pages. The only fix is to wait for Google to update its cache which will probably take a week or two. Please report any problems you encounter to me, Dennis, via email (see below for email address update).

My email address for Leadholder mail has changed. There were problems with he previous address, so if you’ve mailed me within the last few months and got no response, please try again at the new address.

I would not let myself do any content updates until the code overhaul was completed. Now that it is complete, expect to see many more “exciting” additions in the near future.

A.W. Faber Castell TK 9400
Added a first generation A.W. Faber “Castell” TK9400 wooden leadholder with box and instructions to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Criterium pen & pencil set
Added a Criterium Pencil and Pen Set to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

MIFA 30
MIFA 45
Added both a MIFA 30 and a MIFA 45 flat lead leadholder to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Alteneder 502
Added a fine example of the Alteneder 502 with “colored composition cap” to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Glenn Day .

TEC double ender
Added a bizarre double-ended TEC drafting pencil to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

L&C Hardtmuth No. 3
Re-added a very old and unusual triangular barreled L&C Hardtmuth No. 3 to the Non-Drafting Leadholder Gallery because I forgot to add the thumbnail link for it when previously posted.

Eagle Turquoise 3375 box top
Eagle Turquoise 3375 box open
Updated the Eagle Turquoise 3375 entry with an excellent early example with packaging in the Drafting Leadholder Gallery courtesy Allan Macdonald.

L&C Hardtmuth 48 set
Updated the L&C Hardtmuth No. 48 entry with a boxed set containing 24 “Polycolor” leads in the Non-Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Baignol & Farjon ad
Added a 1950 magazine ad for Baignol & Farjon “l’ere Marque” Pencils to the Ad Gallery.

Added the following patents to the Patent Gallery
US 2,170,867 1939 “Pencil”
US 2,298,555 1942 “Mechanical Lead Pencil”
US 3,450,482 1969 “Pencil Lead Holder with Fixed Length Feed”

Added another A.W. Faber Castell 9600 variant to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Added the following catalogs from the collection of Allan Macdonald to the Catalog Gallery.
1874 Gurley Manual
1921 New York Blue Print Paper Co.
1936 Charles Bruning Co.

An honest-to-goodness content update:

Added an extensive selection of pages from a 1905 Frost & Adams Co. catalog to the Catalog Gallery.

Added a white A.W. Faber Castell Locktite Color variant to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Added an 80 or so year old A.W. Faber Castell 9022 box to the Drafting Leadholder Gallery.

Much, much more to come. All of the above new entries are items from the collection of Mr. Allan Macdonald, a fine gentleman with an eye for detail who has generously allowed me to include pieces from his collection. In the coming days I will be adding many new items from his collection and my own that I’ve acquired over the last two or three years.

A year ago I lied. I haven’t done any content updating as I claimed I would. I haven’t done any of the CSS and Javascripting stuff either.

I have done, however, what I think will prove to be a good thing though. At the top right of the site, you’ll notice a new chat availability icon. If that icon looks like this you can click it and talk to me live. Really. I get questions everyday about a variety of things, but ever since my kid was born, I just haven’t had time to answer most of them. I’ve noticed that the ones I do answer, I usually answer immediately after I receive them because I’m online and need something to do other than the work I should be doing. So by making myself available live, I’m hoping to get seriously distracted from real work.
